Text | W. C., son of Elder G. B. and Mary Hancock, was born in Macon County, Mo., Feb. 3, 1862. He died at the family home near Washburn, Mo., on January 25, 1937, at the age of 74 years, 11 months and 22 days. He was married to Alice Gates Nov. 3, 1889, and to this union six children were born, one of whom, Mary May, died at the age of nineteen. He is survived by the widow, one daughter, Mrs. Gail Martin of Baxter Springs, Kan., and four sons, Loyd, of Wichita, Kan., Gene of Wichita, Kan.; Cline, of Wheaton, and Johnnie, of Washburn. He also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Martin Newman of Brown Springs, Mo., Mrs. Ina Akins of Purdy, Mo., four brothers, Ben, of Idaho, Luther and Charlie of Galena, Mo., and Oscar of Carthage, Mo., eleven grand children and a host of other relatives and friends. Mr. Hancock became a member of The Church of Christ fifty-three years ago, and his life has been in harmony with his profession. He has done considerable preaching in this and surrounding communities. The fact that his family (except one son) have followed him, and are faithful members of the church, is proof of his influence for good. Research Note: The birth date that was given to me for William Calvin Hancock, which came from the Hancock family records is Feb 3, 1863 - this reads 1862. Donna Cooper |
