Text | Elmer James "Shorty" Hancock, 86, of Purdy, passed away Friday, Nov. 20, 2009, in his home.
He was born April 14, 1923, in Spring Valley, Ark., the son of John Melton and Effie Lucindy (White) Hancock. He was united in marriage to Clara Mae Rassmussen and to this union three sons were born. Clara Mae passed away in 1989. Others preceding him in death were his parents, three sisters and three brothers. On Aug. 5, 1990, in Purdy, he married Jacqueline Rose (Sizelove) McCord, who survives. Additional survivors include: three sons, Lloyd Hancock and his wife, Margaret, of Baxter Springs, Kan., Floyd Hancock and his wife, Paula, of Mayflower, Ark., and Roy Hancock and his wife, Rosanne, of Rome, N.Y.; stepchildren, Rosette Phillips and her husband, Larry, of Weatherby, David McCord and his wife, Teresa, of De Soto, Kan., Melody Allred and her husband, John, of Purdy, Patty Glas and her husband, Ron, of Lebanon, Susan Moller and her husband, Mark, of Purdy, Sheila Braun and her husband, Steve, of Pardeeville, Wisc., Sharon Reid and her husband, Jeff, of Monett, John McCord and his wife, Wanda, of Clovis, N.M., Jacquie McCord and her fiancé, Mike Nutt, of Purdy, Jim McCord and his wife, Michelle, of Raymore, and Charles Daniel McCord and his wife, Lanetta, of Purdy; two sisters, Audie Robbins and Jesse Jackson, both of Springdale, Ark.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He grew up and received his education at Burkshed, Ark. Most of his life was spent as a carpenter, building homes and grade A barns. For 14 years, he worked at Efco in Monett. He was employed at Cesna in Wichita, Kan., for one year. He also farmed. He was a member of First Assembly of God Church, Purdy. He was active in music ministry. Funeral services were held Tuesday in Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville. Rev. Eddie Kendall conducted the services Charlie McCord and Rev. Mark Moller were speakers. Burial was at Burkshed Cemetery in Arkansas. |
