Headline UNCLE TOM HALE DIES AT SARCOXIE MONDAY
Text Uncle Tom Hale passed away Monday at the home of his son Riley, at Sarcoxie. He had just returned from the west and suffered and immediate attack of pneumonia. His remains were shipped to Cassville and interred in the Viola Cemetery the following Wednesday. Uncle Tom was a good man and about 75 years old. He is the father of Riley Hale of Sarcoxie, and Allen Hale, of Viola. He had a large number of friends in this county who will mourn this loss.
Allen Hale was called to Sarcoxie Tuesday morning by the death of his father W. T. Hale. Uncle Tom had been in Idaho at the home of his daughter for the past several months. He was on his way to spend the holidays with his sons at Sarcoxie and Viola. He was well Sunday but took sick Sunday night, developed pneumonia and died Monday night. He leaves one daughter, Mrs. Cora Bray, of Idaho, four sons, W.R. Hale of Sarcoxie, George of Bartlesville, Okla., Allen, of Viola and Wes, of California, several grandchildren, one great grandchild and a host of friends. The remains were brought to Viola and intered by the side of his wife who died a few years ago. All the children but Mrs. Bray and Wes were at the funeral.

W. T. Hale Dead. W. T. Hale one of the old time residents of Barry county passed away Monday at the home of his son, W. R. Hale, in Sarcoxie, having arrived a few days before from Idaho where he had been for some months. We did not learn the cause of his death.

"Uncle Tom" as he was familiarly called was one of the old timers of Barry county, but the past few years he had been spending considerable time in California and Idaho with a daughter. But every year or two he came back for a visit with relatives and old friends. He is survived by two sons and one daughter, W. R. Hale of Sarcoxie and Allen Hale of Viola and Mrs. Cora Bray of Idaho.

The remains were shipped to Cassville and taken by Horine-Kann Undertaking Company, to Viola Wednesday where interment was made."

Thos. Hale who has been in from California since last September was over Tuesday from Viola for a short visit here. He went from here to Oklahoma for a visit with relatives.

Notes: Tom is buried with his second wife, Louisa Jane Gaddy Hale. His first wife, Hulda Paralee Williams, is buried in the High Cemetery in Carroll Co., AR.

He was divorced from both wives at the time of his death. He was known in the area as "Uncle Tom" as were many of the older inhabitants.

He owned land in Stone County and considered himself a "laplander" as his land lapped over into Barry.

His name was William Thomas Hale, not Tom J., he went by his middle name as did many of his family. Resource: Family knowledge/stone

William Thomas Hale was the son of Turner Ogburn Hale, who moved to Barry County in 1853 from Carroll County, TN. Turner was born in Hawkins Co., TN, son of Ogburn Hale of Norfolk Co., VA. Turner's wife was Sarah Butler, who died after 1870.

Turner died April 28, 1881 and was buried on his farm, along with 16 other members of our family. That cemetery is now under 30 feet of water and the Corps(e) of Engineers only moved 4 graves over to Philibert Cemetery in Stone County, Turner's being one of them, as well as one of his sons, Ellias Ogburn Hale, his son in law, Elijah Clark, one unmarked and one with initials of TJB.

The George M. Hale, mentioined as Tom's son in Bartlesville, OK was my grandfather.
