Text | Walter David Gurley, son of Newton and Eliza Gurley, was born March 10, 1877, in Granby, Missouri. His parents moved to Barry County when he was a small child and he spent the remainder of his life here. In January 1904 he was married to Miss Josie Montgomery. To that union one child was born. His wife died in the year 1907. In 1920 he was married to Mrs. Minnie Smith. He was converted in the year 1920 at Mt. Pleasant church in Butterfield. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife Minnie Gurley; his daughter, Mrs. Madge Lee of Arlington, Virginia; and one stepson, Cleophas Smith of Sand Springs, Oklahoma; one stepdaughter, Miss Wilma Smith, of California; one stepson, Herschel Smith, preceded him in death four years ago; four brothers: Harrison, Herschel, and Mack Gurley of Butterfield, and Monroe Gurley of Exeter; two sisters, Mrs. Emma McClure of Mineral Springs, Mo., and Mrs. Fannie Shoopman of Bristow, Oklahoma. Three sisters have preceded him in death. A host of other relatives and his many friends have given up a dear relative and friend which can not be replaced. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon, September 19, at the Mt. Pleasant church, conducted by Rev. C. E. Henderson, assisted by Rev. H. S. King. Burial was in Clark Cemetery. |
