Obit For Mary Ann (Combs) Gurley
Headline AGED PURDY WOMAN DIES OF PNEUMONIA
Text Mrs. Mary Ann Gurley, 89, widow of John Gurley who died 27 years ago, died at her home in Purdy at 7 o'clock Tuesday morning, January 20. She had been taken sick for a week with Flu and pneumonia. All of her children, except one son, Joe Gurley of Isabel, Kans., were with her when she died. The other children are Coleman Gurley of St. Louis, Arthur Gurley of Clovis, N.M., Mace Gurley, Mrs. Mon Strother and Mrs. Margaret Browning of Purdy.

The funeral was held at 1 o'clock Thursday afternoon at the home, conducted by E.W. Love of Joplin. Burial was made in New Church cemetery by the grave of her husband, under the direction of the Blankenship funeral service.

Mrs. Gurley was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mace Combs, early settlers of Barry County and was born in Arkansas January 13, 1842. The family has always been prominent in the affairs of this county. Mrs. Gurley was a Presbyterian by faith.

Besides her children Mrs. Gurley is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Wm. Fly and Mrs. John Tucker of Purdy, and a brother, John Combs of Sawyer, Kans. A sister, Mrs. William Tucker, of Purdy, was killed in an accident last year.
