Text J. M. "Mac" Gurley, life-long resident of Barry County, passed away at the Monett Hospital Sunday morning January 1st. Mr. Gurley had been in poor health for several years. He was born in Barry County February 10, 1873, and had spent his entire lifetime here.

Always a progressive citizen, Mr. Gurley was one of the outstanding farmers of the county during his active years. He was always interested in the modern development of farming operations.

For many years he was a leader among the strawberry growers of this county and Southwest Missouri.

A man of unquestioned integrity, he was active and influential in the affairs if his community.

Mr. Gurley took an active interest in Republican politics and at one time was his party’s nominee for the position of Western Judge of the Barry County Court.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Dora Gurley; two sons, A. E. of Bristow, Okla., and Amos of the Butterfield community; two daughters, Mrs. Ray McNally and Mrs. A. V. Nelson also of the Butterfield community; and 16 grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church where Mr. Gurley had throughout the years, been an ardent church worker. Rev. Calvin E. Henderson and Rev. Francis Goodnight officiated.

Burial was in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery under direction of the Culver Funeral Home.
