| Text | Veta M. Gravitt, 99, of Monett, died at 3:35 p.m. yesterday, April 25, at Monett Health Care Center following a long illness. Mrs. Gravitt was born April 17, 1902, in Barry County, the daughter Ernest E. and Dora Maggie (Burchett) Hankins. She was a beautician for 58 years in Monett and operated the Beauty Corner until retiring. She was a member of the First Untied Methodist Church and United Methodist Women in Monett and a member of the National Hairdresser's Association. She married Leonard Ray Gravitt on September 6, 1919, near Butterfield, and he preceded her in death in August of 1951. Survivors include one daughter, of Monett; two grandchildren, of San Marcos, Texas, and of Monett; and one niece. She was preceded in death by one brother, Hershel Hankins. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Monday, April 30, at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery near Butterfield with Rev. Clif Crockett officiating under the direction of Bennett-Wormington Funeral Home of Monett. Friends may call after 11 a.m. Sunday, April 29. Memorials may be made to Hospice or Etta Binder Scholarship fund. |
