Obit For Mary Charity (Duncan) (Hubbert) Goostree

Text Mrs. Alex. Goostree, aged 75 years, widow of the late Alex. Goostree, died at the home of her son, Charles, in Liberty township, Sunday, March 25, 1906. She was the mother of William, John, James, Chas. Brattin of near Washburn, and Mrs. Thos. Tucker of near Butterfield. The remains were laid to rest Tuesday in the Concord Cemetery. Her health had been bad of or sometime, and her death was not expected. She was a good mother, citizen, and neighbor, and respected and confidence of all her acquaintances.


Mary Charity Duncan was born Dec. 12, 1830, died March 25, 1906., age 75 years, 3 months and 13 days. She professed faith in Christ when young and joined the Cumberland Presbyterian Church and lived a consistent member until death. Deceased was born in Amherst County, Virginia, in 1830, moved to Indiana in 1831, lived there until 1833 and moved from there to Calloway County, MO. She stated with her father the late John I. Duncan to the state of Texas, and landed in Barry County, Missouri, July 4, 1836.

Deceased was first married to Anderson Youbard [sic] (Hubbert), who lived but a short time. She was then married to Alexander Goostree, May 28, 1823. She was the mother of 9 children of whom 6 are living, 30 grand-children and 5 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Neta A. Brattin and J. F. Goostree, Exeter and J. F. Goostree, and W. t., J. W, and C. W. Goostree of Rocky Comfort, MO.

Interment was made at the Concord Cemetery, before a large concourse of sorrowing friends and relatives. Brother Love preached the funeral.
