Text | Peter B. Gipson, 83 years old, passed away at his home in Purdy, Friday November 30, following a short illness. Mr. Gipson had been in ill health for some time, but the illness which caused his death was of short duration. He was born in Alabama in 1845, and was a veteran of the Civil War. He came to the Crane Community immediately after the war and in 1869 was married to Miss Sarah Peters. Mr. and Mrs. Gipson were the parents of 13 children and 8 of them are living. They are: Alfred Gipson and Mrs. J. E. Logan, Crane Mo., Verner Gipson Baxter Springs, Kan., Mrs. J. C. Stevens, Pyatt, Ark., Virgil Gipson, Joplin, Columbus Gipson, Chicago, Ill., Ennis Gipson, Purdy and Mrs. J. E. Reed, Wheaton. Besides his immediate family of children, he is survived by his widow, 27 grand children and 33 great grand children. All the children were present at the funeral. The funeral was held at Purdy Sunday afternoon, Dec. 2, and was conducted by Rev. J. F. Allman. Burial was made in the New Church Cemetery under the direction of Pogue Undertaking, Wheaton, Mo. |
