Text | Albert William "Jr." Gates, 92, of Springfield, formerly of Monett, died December 18 at Cox Medical Center South in Springfield. Mr. Gates was born Mary 23, 1915, in Purdy, the son of William and Mamie (Henderson) Gates. He retired in 1978 as a conductor for Frisco Railroad. He was secretary and treasurer of BRT & UTU Railroad Lodges from 1958 to 1976. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Springfield, Burlington Northern Retiree Club of Springfield, Eagle Rock Community Center, OARS Amateur Radio Club in Aurora, and Little Switzerland at Holiday Island, Arkansas. He married Dorcas Uldine Williams on March 7, 1937, in Monett, and she preceded him in death on July 13, 1992. Survivors include one son, of Sidney, Ohio; and one daughter, of Springfield. He was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. tomorrow, December 21, at Monett IOOF Cemetery with Jeff Sippy, pastor, officiating under the direction of Buchanan Funeral Home of Monett. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. tomorrow until service time at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the church. |
