Obit For Mary Elizabeth (Moore) Garrison

Text Mary Elizabeth Moore, daughter of William and Mary Ann Moore, was born near Baxter, Stone County, October 16, 1858. Departed this life February 9, 1945, at the age of 86 years, 3 months and 24 days. Her father and mother preceded here in death at the end of the Civil War. She had two brothers, Thomas and Garrett Moore, who preceded her in death. She was married to Francis M. Garrison, or Frank, as he was called December 1, 1881. To this union were born seven daughters and four sons. One daughter, Lidy Ann, and Marvin, who died in infancy, Mary Jane, Mrs. Laura Taylor, who preceded her in death some 40 years; Della who died in infancy and Martin C. of Nampa, Idaho, who passed away July 11, 1944, just six months preceding his mother.

She left to survive her three daughters and two sons. Mrs. Lucy Smith of Viola, at who home she passed away; Mrs. Mat Swofford, Rt. 1 Berryville, Ark.; Mrs. Charley Swofford, Rt. 4 Berryville, Ark.; John W. Garrison of Fairview and Daniel G. Garrison of Mt. Vernon, besides a host of grandchildren, 10 preceded her in death; and 62 great-grand-children.

She was united with the Church of God some 40 years ago; was a kind, and affectionate mother and was liked by all who knew her.

She left a host of nieces and nephews to mourn her passing, besides many friends.

Funeral services were conducted by Mrs. Eva Swofford. The body was laid to rest in the McCullough cemetery beside the body of her husband and four children. The little two months old infant of Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Swofford, a grandson of Mrs. Garrison, was laid to rest the same evening in the same cemetery. It was a double funeral, grandmother and great-grandson. Virgil Swoffod was the son of Lizzie Garrison. – Contributed.
