Text | Maud Pernettie Highbarger, daughter of Kathryn and John Alexander Highbarger, was born Oct 23, 1885, in Saline County, MO, and departed this life Saturday, Oct 9, 1954 at the age of 68 years, 11 months and 16 days. She grew to womanhood in Dallas County Missouri and moved to Wheaton in 1904. She was united in marriage to James M. Gardner October 22, 1905. Three sons and two daughters were born to this union. A son and daughter preceded her in death. She leaves to mourn her passing, her companion, James M Gardner; two sons, Leonard Gardner and Lawrence Gardner of Mt. Shasta Calif.; one daughter, Mrs. Audie Vanslyke of Wheaton; eight grandchildren; one stepson, Gaylord Gardner of Kansas; one brother, Luther Highbarger; two stepsisters: Myrtle Paylor of Denver, Colo., and Deamy Saltz of Oakland Calif.; also a number of other relatives and the many friends she made through the years. The mother’s love - there’s none so pure. So constant and so kind; No human passion doth endure Like this with in the mind. Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon, Oct 11 at the Muncie Chapel church by Rev. W P Richardson. Interment was made in the Muncie Cemetery under direction of the McQueen Funeral Home.
