Text | James M. son of the late Logan W. and Sarah Belle Gardner was born in Uptons, KY. April 12, 1878 and departed this life March 24, 1965 in the Scroggins Nursing Home in Monett, MO at the age of 86 years, 11 months and 12 days. He came to Missouri with his parents when 2 ½ years old and located in the Wheaton area where he spent the remainder of his life. He was united in marriage with Gusta Shewmake on October 8, 1900. His wife was called to her eternal rest in 1902. On October 22, 1905 he was united in marriage with Maude Highbarger. To this union five children were born. They established their home and reared their family on the farm one and one half miles east of Wheaton. He was a devoted husband and father, and was especially happy when he could be of help to his neighbors and friends. Survivors include two sons Leonard Gardner of Mount Shasta, Calif., Lawrence Gardner of Sparks, Nev.; one daughter, Mrs. Alice Vanslyke of Wheaton, MO; one brother, Horace Gardner of Monett; three sisters, Mrs. Allice Farley of Pierce City, MO. Mrs. Emma Morgan and Mrs. Anna Santee of Wheaton; 17 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren and other relatives and many friends. His wife Maude, two sons, Gaylord and Ozzie Gardner, and a daughter, Bertha Nell, preceded him in death. Funeral services were conducted Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock in the McQueen Funeral Chapel by Rev Stanton Patterson. Mrs. John Holmes, Mrs. Bob Buck, Mrs. Dale Boyer and Leslie Phillips sang, “Face to Face” “Do You Know My Jesus” and “Where The Fadeless Flowers Grow” accompanied by Mrs. Lonnie Plumlee. Pallbearers were Everett Cooper, Noble Utter, Boone Royer, Charles Crider, Loyd Haynes, and Clyde Vanslyke. Burial was made in Muncie Chapel Cemetery under direction of McQueen’s. |
