Headline PROMINENT WELL-TO-D0 FAMER SUCCUMBS AT AGE OF 78 AFTER SHORT ILLNESS
Thos. Galyen Dies in Ash Township
Text Thomas Galyen prominent Ash Township farmer, died at his home last Friday night following an illness since last June of infirmities of old age. Mr. Galyen was born and raise on the farm where he died and all of his life had been spent there where he successfully engaged in farming, his death coming at the age of 75 years.

Mr. Galyen was a son of an old time and honorable early Barry county family. For 78 years he lived a useful and honorable life in that section and raised an honorable family. His good wife preceded him in death a few years ago, since which time his daughter has been living with him.

He was the father of 11 children, seven of whom are living and survive. He leaves three sons, Wes of near Cassville, Tom Jr., and Jim near the old home and four daughters whose names we were unable to learn.

Impressive funeral services were conducted at the family home last Saturday afternoon after which the remains were laid to rest beside his wife in the Pratt cemetery, near Elkhorn Tavern, Ark. The noted Taylor Quartette furnished splendid music at the service.

To lose such men as Tom Galyen is a severe lost to Barry County. He was a man whose word was his bond and his every act was to do right. It was the editor’s pleasure to have been intimately acquainted with him for 30 years and to know him was to love him. He was one of the Democrat’s oldest readers and he was also a personal friend of the late Dr. John Ray and Charles Ray editors of the Democrat.

The Democrat joins many friends of the Galyen family in extending sincere sympathy over the loss of their excellent father.

Mr. Galyen owned one of the best farms in this county it having been owned by his father for years.
