Text | At an early hour Tuesday morning March 26, 1918, Mrs. Sarah J. Galloway, widow of the late Judge M. A. Galloway, passed away at her home in this city, at the age of 74 years, 6 months and 25 days. Death came as a result of paralysis. She suffered from the first attack some four weeks ago and her condition had each week gradually became more serious. The funeral was held from the Christian Church in this city, at 2:30 o'clock, conducted by Rev. J. T. Brattin. Interment was made in the Oak Hill cemetery beside her husband who passed away August 2, 1917. Sarah Jane Henson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Zachariah Henson, was born on Flat Creek near Cape Fair, August 29, 1843. She had lived all of her life, except a temporary absence at Marionville, in Stone and Barry Counties, mainly in this county. She was married to M. A. Galloway, Oct. 17, 1861. Twelve children blessed their home, nine of who are living, three having died in infancy. The living children are: Frank of Houston, Tex., A. L. and Jesse of this city, Zach of Aurora, Charles of Monett and George of Pomona, Mrs. J. H. Thomas and Mrs. Gilla Short of this city and Mrs. H. A. Gardner of Monett. Mrs. Galloway was one of the pioneer citizens of this county, had lived through the trying years of the county's early history and raised a large family but always found time to do the part of the Good Samaritan to her neighbors in need. She was lovingly devoted to her family who had been always so responsive and eager to give her every possible attention. For many years she had been a consistent member of the Christian church and ever an exemplary mother. |
