Headline | JOHN W. FLY PASSED AWAY John Wesley Fly Dies In Clovis, Cal. Was Former Barry County Citizen |
Text | Some kind friend has sent the Democrat a copy of the Clovis, California Tribune, of January 24, containing an account of the death of John Wesley Fly at that place, January 20, at his home in that city. He was born in Tennessee and came with his father, the late Mr. and Mrs. Asher Fly, to Barry county in the early fifties and settled on Shoal Creek, on what is known as the B. I. Webb farm and lived there many years and some forty years ago moved to Routt county, Colorado near Slater, Wyoming, where they got their mail. As we remember there were three brothers of the family, Tillman, John and Albert Fly. John W. moved to California where he lived and died. He is survived by four daughters and one son and his wife who was Miss Charity Clark and they were married at Newtonia, Missouri, June 11, 1864. His sister Mrs. Elizabeth Dabbs of Barry county survives him. He was a member of the Methodist church and a veteran of the Union Army of the Civil War and served in the 1st Missouri Calvary under Col. Ritter. There are some of the old timers left that will remember him. |
