Text | Gene Fly, 73, of Monett, died at 11:05 p.m. Friday, June 1, at St. John's Regional Health Center in Springfield following a long illness. Mr. Fly was born January 11, 1928 in Purdy to Herschel Benton and Hila Rebecca Stockton Fly. A retired auto mechanic, he owned the G and R Sinclair Service Station in Monett, and was the former manager of the Cooper Skelly Station, also in Monett. He married Velma Smith on July 4, 1948 in Springfield. He was also a charter member of the Faith and Hope Freewill Baptist Church in Aurora. Other survivors include one daughter, one grandson, and three great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow, June 5, at Bennett-Wormington Funeral Chapel in Monett with Rev. Bill Swearingen and Rev. Danny Hill officiating. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery in Monett under the direction of the funeral home. Visitation will be held tonight, June 4, 7-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Faith and Hope Freewill Baptist Church in Aurora in care of the funeral home. |
