Headline | BOY KILLED IN SATURDAY STORM Barn Is Destroyed But Livestock Is Not Hurt |
Text | Fourteen year old James C. Fieker, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Fieker, Sr., of the Shoal Creek community east of Wheaton, was killed late Saturday afternoon by a severe wind storm which stuck and destroyed the barn at the Fieker place. Mr. and Mrs. Fieker and their son were at the barn when the storm came up Saturday afternoon late and seeing the bad looking cloud started from the barn to the house. The son turned back, however, into the barn and was killed. There are reported to have been 18 head of cows and 7 head of horses in the barn but none of them were killed. The wind with the force of a tornado laid the walls of the barn flat, and one of the walls as it fell stuck James. All of the buildings on the farm were destroyed except the dwelling house. Funeral services, under the direction of the Pogue Funeral Home of Wheaton were held Tuesday afternoon, March 27, at the Muncie Chapel, and burial made there. He is survived by his parents, two brothers, Charles and Robert; two sisters, Betty and Adeline. The farm on which the Fieker family live is owned by W.C. Chenoweth of Wheaton. |
