Text | Lucille Johnston Faulkner, age 92, passed away on Monday, January 7, 2013, at Alexandria INOVA Hospital, in Alexandria, Virginia.
Lucille, a long time resident of Cassville, graduated from Cassville High School, attended both Drury College, and Pittsburg State University. Lucille was active in debate and public speaking, winning a national championship in debate and Oratory. She began her professional life as a classroom teacher, first in Neosho, and later in Cassville. Lucille married Kenneth Johnston, a returning veteran from World War II, raised two daughters, and partnered with Kenny to establish Johnston's Cassville Hardware and Variety. Lucille was named as a first woman member of the National Board of Directors of Cotter & Company, True Value Hardware. She is survived by two daughters of Falls Church, VA, of Plano, Texas; two grandchildren of Norfolk, VA, and of Houston Texas; and three great-grandchildren. Arrangements are being made by Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville, Missouri. Visitation will be 6 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, January 11, at the funeral home and services will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 12, at the Cassville United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Cassville. To honor Lucille's commitment to education, and her tenure as the first elected woman on the Cassville School Board, memorial donations may be made to the Cassville Education Fund, that benefits special projects in the Cassville schools. |
