Text | Erwin William Stewart Erwin was born in a log cabin on the farm where he has spent most of his life and where he passed away January 24, 1938. He was born December 25, 1856 and was 81 years and 29 days of age. About a year ago, he suffered a stroke of paralysis and had not fully recovered. He was about the barn doing his chores, when he was stricken again and soon passed away. He was the son of the late George and Harriett Erwin. He was united in marriage to Miss Frona David Stephens, Nov. 14, 1880. To this union nine children were born, They are: Mrs. Leona Black, deceased; Vernon David Erwin of Exeter, Mo., Mrs. Maud Lillian Salmon of Wichita, Kansas, Zola Ann Neill of Bakersfield, Calf., Franklin Howard Erwin, deceased; Arthur Erwin, killed in France; George W. Steward Erwin of Bobs town, Texas; Florence Katy Anderson of Bakersfield, Calif., and Perry Bert Erwin of Bakersfield, Calf., 2 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Also the following brother and sisters: Mary Coppage of Bristow, Okla., Dave of Sacramento, Calif; Lizze Pilant and Mrs. Annie McGlothin of Exeter, Mo., Sadie Kelly of Sangor, Calif., George Erwin of Galena, Kansas, and Katie Brattin of Joplin, Mo., and also many other relatives and friends mourn his passing. He had been a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 367 at Washburn since. 1922. Funeral rites were held at the Exeter Baptist Church on Wednesday afternoon, January 26, 1938 by Chas Vanzandt. The Masonic service was also given. Burial in the Maplewood cemetery, with Barr-Blankenship in charge. Research Note: Missouri death cert. #1924 listed name as William S.
