Headline RITES WEDNESDAY FOR EXETER HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR
Jerry Dean Erwin Died Last Friday Following A Sudden Illness
Text Funeral services for Jerry Dean Erwin, 17 year old Exeter High School Senior, were conducted Wednesday afternoon at the Exeter High School gymnasium with the Rev. Hugh Higgs and the Rev. Charley Vanzandt officiating.

Young Erwin died last Friday afternoon in a Springfield hospital where he was taken three days earlier after being suddenly stricken at his home in the Wayne community south of Exeter. For about a week the youth had been suffering from what appeared to have been the flu before his condition became acute and he was taken to Springfield. An autopsy revealed that death came as the result of a blood clot at the base of the brain. Attending physicians were at a loss to explain what could have caused the condition.

Born at Wayne and having lived there all his life, Erwin was member of the Ridgley Baptist Church. Pallbearers for the service, both active and honorary were members of the Senior class with senior girls acting as flower girls.

Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jay W. Erwin of Wayne; three brothers, a sister, the paternal grandfather, Judge Erwin of the home; the maternal grandmother; the maternal grandmother, Mrs. Martin of Exeter; and three nieces and a nephew. Burial was in the Maplewood cemetery under direction of the Williamson Funeral Home.
