Obit For James Bayless Erwin

Text James Bayless Erwin was born in East Tennessee, Dec. 7, 1851 and died at his home at Wayne, Barry county, Dec. 8, 1930, age 79 years and one day. He came to Missouri with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Erwin in the year 1859.

On July 7, 1872 he was married to Miss Margaret A. Thomas. To this union six children were born, one dying in infancy ad his son Walter passed away March 31 of this year. Those living are Will Erwin of Pierce City, Mo., Mrs. Mollie Brixey, Judge Erwin and Mrs. Demah Antle, of Exeter, Mo. He also leaves two brothers, Sam of Exeter, and William of Oswego, Kans., three sisters, Mrs. Nan Weatherly of Cassville, Mrs. Tilda Cary of Clovis, Calif. And Mrs. Mrs. Martha Elliot of Texas. A number of grandchildren and grand-grandchildren survive.

He was converted at the Washburn Prairie church, under the preaching of Rev. D.P. Morris, in the year of 1872 and united with what was then the Independence Baptist church, later uniting with the Exeter Baptist church, by letter.

Funeral services were held at the Exeter Baptist church on Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 10, 1930 by the pastor Chas Vanzandt. Burial in the Maplewood Cemetery in Exeter, under the direction of Barr and Blankenship Funeral Service.
