Text | Truman Elmore of Tar River, Okla., a former Barry County boy, committed suicide in a Kansas City hotel Tuesday. He was found dead in his room at the hotel with a bullet wound in his head. Elmore was president of the Mineral Belt Bank and Tar River, which he organized about two years ago. He went to Tar River from Neosho where he had lived about fifteen years. Before that he was in the mercantile business at Seneca. He had speculated heavily and had lost heavily on the futures in grain. A message signed by Elmore was found in his room address to your son and the sons of other men. One paragraph addressed to President Wilson, urged taking steps to stop dealing in futures. Elmore carried life insurance to the amount of $40,000. He leaves a wife and one son. His father, was Thomas Elmore of Newton County, was for many years a prominent teacher and resident of this county. He was a nephew of John Elmore of near this city. Truman was about 48 years old. |
