Text | George Cleveland Edmondson died at his home east of Cassville and near Mineral Spring Saturday at the age of 93 years and 18 days. Mr. Edmondson, one of Barry County’s oldtime and respected citizens was born in Elijah, Ga., on May 15, 1852, resided there until he arrived at young manhood and came to Cassville 55 years ago and located on the farm 4 miles east of town where he resided until his passing. He was united in marriage to Martha Hipps on March 15, 1876 at Elijah and this fine couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary before her passing nine years ago. To their union was born 12 children, all of whom survived. They are: James Edmondson, Seneca; Doss Edmondson, Seligman; Cleve Edmondson, Alaska; Mrs. Hattie Chapman, Metz, No.; Mrs. Cordelia Evans, Kansas City; Mrs. Vena Stubblefield, Portland, Ore; Ben and Cliff Edmondson, Mrs. Fannie Henley, Mrs. Addie Williams of Cassville and Maye and Flora Edmondson of the home. In addition to the children he leaves 32 grandchild and 42 great grandchildren. A most remarkable salutation is found in his passing in that despite, his many years, he never had to witness a death among his children or grandchildren or two great-grandchildren preceded him. George Cleveland Edmondson was a citizen of whom any community may be proud. He was a the very sole of honor and integrity. His word was a good as a government bond. His business was always open and above board and he was most successful as a farmer and stockman and during the days of his activity he was among the county’s largest stockgrowers. He is the last of his immediate family. He was a brother of the late Wm. P. Edmondson, another pioneer, who left like his brother a name engraved in the minds of all a fine citizen and a good man. Funeral services were held at the Koon Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Charles VanZandt with services at the grave by Pythagoras Lodge 383, A.F.& A.M., of which he had been a member for more that 50 years. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery by the Koon Funeral Home.
