| Text | Succumbs at Age of 80, After Long, Honorable And Useful Life-Came To Barry County Years Ago. John C. Edens was born November 23, 1853, in Hancock County, Tenn. He died at his home near Washburn, October 12, 1934, at the age of 80 years, 10 months and 20 days. He came to Missouri with his parents in early life and later united in marriage to Harriet Wallace. To this union four children were born, who are N.E. Edens, Orber H. Edens and Jettie Jones, all of Washburn, and a son Virgil W. Edens, who departed this life in infancy. Beside his wife and three children, he is survived by three brothers and three sisters, who are C. M. Edens, Garfield, Ark; Bob Edens and Hiram Edens, Washburn, Pollyan Roller, Mary E. Wilson and Fannie Henry, all of Seligman, Mo. He also leaves four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. He professed faith in Christ in middle of life. He was a good companion, a loving father and a worthy citizen. He will be greatly missed by his family and neighbors. Funeral services were held at the Washburn church, on Saturday afternoon, October 13, by Rev. Chas Vanzandt. Burial was in the King Cemetery, near Seligman, under the direction of the Koon Funeral Service. Mr. Edens was a man in whom everyone had explicit confidence. He was honest and progressive and his every act was to do good. He came to this county at an early age in life and had many friends who join the Democrat in extending sympathy to the bereaved family.
