Headline Former Local Resident Dies In Kentucky
Text Word has been received here of the death of Eldon S. Dummit, 78, of Lexington, Kentucky, a native of Monett and former attorney general of the state of Kentucky, who died Thursday, May 3, at Lexington. Born in the Kings Prairie area south of Monett, Mr. Dummit was a graduate of Monett High School. He received his degree in law from the University of Kentucky in 1920 and was a member of the Fayette County, Kentucky, and American Bar Associations. A veteran of World War I, he was active in the American Legion of Kentucky and had served as state commander in 1931. He served as attorney general from 1943 to 1947 and was a Republican nominee for governor in 1947. In 1953 he was named special commissioner for the Fayette County Court. He was active in civic affairs in Lexington, and was awarded the Optimist Cup as Lexington's outstanding citizen. He was a worthy grand patron of the Order of Eastern Star, former president of Pyramid Club, chairman of Lexington's first Community War Chest, a past chairman of the Lexington Council of Boys Scouts, and a past president of Optimist International. He was a member of the Crestwood Christian Church.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Christine Shouse Dummit, 3216 Breckenwood Drive Lexington; two sons, Dr. Garland Dummit of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Dr. Eldon S. Dummit, Jr., of Sauford, N. C.; two sisters, Mrs. Howard Witt of Anderson, S. C., and Mrs. Elsie Bolton of Vienna, Virginia; and 11 grandchildren.

Funeral services were held in Lexington with burial there.
