Former Washburn Man Dies Suddenly Tuesday After-Noon
Text Frisco Official - The many Washburn and Barry county friends of Firm Denton will be grieved to learn that he passed away Tuesday afternoon at his home in Cuba, Mo. His death came suddenly and unexpected heart aliments being the reported cause. Several years ago, Mr. Denton resided at Washburn and began his career with the Frisco Railroad Company at that place, working on the section gang. In a short time he was promoted to Section foreman and afterward was given another promotion as road master, his district being between Springfield and Newburg, Mo. He was also in the claim department of that company and it was while he served in such capacity that he was promoted to districts road master. A wreck had occurred on the Frisco line, Mr. Denton, as well as a high up official of the Frisco were on the train which had wrecked. Mr. Denton left the train to ascertain conditions of the wreck and immediately pulled off his coat and crawled under a passenger coach and proceeded to render valuable assistance in clearing the wreck. The high-up official, who was standing near by took notice of Denton’s interest and said, "Any person that shows as much interest in company affairs as that man is, is entitled to something higher" and the following day Denton was promoted to district road master, which position he held at the time of his untimely passing.

Mr. Denton was born and raised at Washburn and was about 55 years old. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Denton and beside his good wife, he leaves 5 boys and 2 girls to mourn his passing. Before and after the war his father was a stage coach driver through this section. Firm was an excellent man and citizen and well loved by all who knew him. His many friends sympathize with his grief stricken family in their sad hour of bereavement. Funeral services were held at Cuba on Thursday and the remains interred at that place.
