Text | Marguerite Decocq, 87, of Joplin, Mo., former Wheaton resident, died at 6:25 p.m. Wednesday, June 29, 2005, at Lacoba Nursing Home in Monett.
Mrs. Decocq was born January 16, 1918, in Sulphur Rock, AR, the daughter of Walter W. and Della Ann (Henley) Hoyt. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church of Barry County. She was a charter member of Town & Country Quilters Club, Eastern Star, and Indianapolis, IN Retired Teachers Organization. Marguerite taught school from 1944 to 1975. She began her career in a one-room school in Barry County, MO and taught at Butterfield, Mo., Springfield, MO, and Terre Haute, IN, retiring from the Indianapolis School System. She graduate from SMS and received her masters in education at Drury College. After she retired from teaching she worked many years as the librarian for the Webb City Library. She had a passion for quilting and was recognized as a master quilter throughout the Joplin area. She married Chester "Buck" Higgs on February 3, 1936, and he preceded her in death. She married Lawrence Decocq on May 15, 1982, in Grove, OK, and he preceded her in death April 30, 1987. Survivors include one son, one daughter, six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, July 2, 2005, at Buchanan Funeral Home in Monett with Rev. Richard Buck officiating. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery, Exeter, Mo. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Lacoba Nursing Home in Monett. |
