Headline RAY DAVIDSON IS LOST IN U-BOAT; SUNK JAPS’ SHIP
Text Well Known Young Countian Was Torpedoman On Vessel with Record of 607 Enemy Ships During War. Torpedoman Ray Davidson. 22 well-known and highly respected young man of Barry County has paid the supreme sacrifice in his successful efforts to do his part in removing the Axis and Sneakiness Japanese from this world of war. His end came when the Submarine Grayback was lost. The Grayback is credited with having took part in the sinking of 607 Jap ships and was lost in the Pacific waters with a crew of 654 men. On a recent mission the U-boat and crew were credited with having destroyed an auxiliary cruiser and two freighters. Her now missing skipper, Commander John A Moore of Memphis, was awarded the Navy Cross.

Torpedoman Davidson is a member of one of the county’s well known and respected families. He is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Ewing Davidson of Washburn and reared at Wheaton where they formerly lived. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Gustie Patterson Davidson, and son Jackie Ray, 2 of Washburn. His grandmother, Mrs. Ava Davidson of Wheaton has seven grandsons in the service. Other near relatives surviving are uncles and aunts. They are: Noah Davidson, Mrs. James Barnett and Mrs. Earl Duncan of Exeter, Mrs. Frank Carter of ElDorado Springs, Kenneth Davidson of Wheaton and Elmer Davidson, Red Cross Director of Houston, Tex. and formerly of this county. The Sympathy of the people of the county is extended the bereaved but all are pleased he accomplished so much in the little time allotted him to do so.
