Text | Rev. Charles E. "Chuck" D'Arcy, 80, of Monett, passed away at 11:30 p.m., Wednesday, November 10, 2004, at his residence in Monett following a lingering illness. He was born March 27, 1924 in Artesia, New Mexico, the son of the late Edward and Rena Belle Ferris D'Arcy.
During World War II, Chuck was assigned to the 783 Anti-Aircraft Battalion serving in the South Pacific. After being discharged from the Army he graduated from Colorado State College, Greeley, Colorado and Western Evangelical Seminary in Portland, Oregon. He pastured churches in Colorado and South Dakota before moving to Missouri. In 1972 he moved to Monett after being called to pastor the Waldensian Presbyterian Church where he served for 18 years. Rev. D'Arcy was active in the Mission of the Church as well as a variety of community organizations. While serving as chairman of the Crosslines Board, the present building was purchased; he was on the board for the Aurora Habitat for Humanity; he was a volunteer for hospice, and chaplain for the Hobbs-Anderson American Legion Post 91. In 1999 he was honored by being named Legionnaire of the year. In 1968, he received the Governor's Award for outstanding Service on behalf of older Missourians. He was active in the John Calvin Presbytery serving on numerous committees. He married on February 9, 1947 in Boulder, Colorado. Additional survivors include one son, two daughters, one sister, six granddaughters, one grandson and one great-granddaughter. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 13, 2004, at 10 a.m., at the Waldensian Presbyterian Church, Monett, with Rev. Vicki Evans, Rev. Walt Hamer and Rev. Jim Tuckett officiating. Burial will be in the Waldensian church cemetery under the direction of Bennett-Wormington Funeral Home, Monett. |
