Odessa (Wiley) Cope was born near Scholten, Mo., Dec. 26, 1880; departed this life July 2, 1948, at the age of 67 years, 6 months and 7 days.
She was the oldest child of Bill and Lora Wiley.
She was united in marriage Feb. 22, 1900 with Orra D. Cope, who preceded her in death Oct. 27, 1921 leaving her with 10 children, all of whom survive her, and were present at the funeral services. They are: Gale Cope, of Cassville; Glen and Hilda of the home; Chester of Kansas City, Kan.; Bill of Long Beach, Calif.; Mrs. Jess Hancock of Jenkins; Bud of Golden; Bunk of Tehachapi, Calif.; Mrs. Hugh Parks of Springfield; Mrs. Milford Eaton of Crane.
There are 16 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, 2 brothers and 2 sisters, Roscoe Wiley and Mrs. Robert Salsman of Los Angeles, Calif., Mrs. Harry Albright of Caldwell, Idaho, and Lloyd Wiley of Crane. Also a host of friends and relatives who will surely miss her in the neighborhood.
She obeyed the gospel of Christ at the age of 16 years, and had been a faithful member of the church. Under her teaching most of her children have followed her in the faith. Being a widow for 27 years with the help of the older sons she kept the family together and educated them. She had been a devoted mother and her children may will rise up and call her blessed. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, July 5, at the Mars Hill church, and burial was in the church cemetery, with the Koon undertakers of Cassville in charge. The funeral services were conducted by Morton Woodard, Minister of the Church of Christ in Cassville. |
