#1. A Cassville woman died from injuries sustained when her car was struck by a tractor-trailer unit at 4:15 p.m. Sunday on Highway 37, four miles north of Cassville, according to the Missouri Highway Patrol. Clema Cope, 79, died at 12:30 a.m. Monday at Cox Regional Medical Center in Springfield. The truck driver, M. Criste, 52, Fort Smith, Arkansas, was not hurt. The patrol said the southbound Cope car pulled into the path of the northbound tractor-trailer unit. #2. Clema Jane Cope, 79, Cassville, died at 12:35 a.m. Monday at Cox Medical Center South, Springfield, of injuries sustained Sunday in a two-car accident on Highway 37, four miles north of Cassville. Mrs. Cope was born Feb. 11, 1910, at the Cato community, near Jenkins. She moved to Cassville from Bakersfield, Calif., in 1972. She was a retired bookkeeper for Bakersfield Truck and Trailer Co., Bakersfield, Calif. She also worked as a bookkeeper for Missouri Farmers Association, Neighborhood Center, South Barry County Hospital, Senior Citizens Center, all of Cassville. She was a bookkeeper for Mill Street Church of Christ, Cassville, where she was a member. She married Russell D. Cope on Nov. 4, 1933, at Eureka Springs, Ark. He died September 1939. Survivors include a son, a sister, five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday at Williamson-Cassville Funeral Home, Wayne Deffenbaugh, minister, will officiate. Burial will be in Clio Cemetery, near Jenkins. Pallbearers will be Gene Coones, Eugene Miekley, Charles Lee, Charles Whisman, Estel Aldridge and Max Fields. Friends may call after 9:00 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. The casket will be closed at all times. Contributions may be made to Fairhaven Children's Home, in care of the funeral home. |
