Claude “Bud” Cope, 51-year-old former Golden merchant, who has lived in Springfield for the past several years, died at St. John's Hospital there about 5:30 Tuesday afternoon.
Born in the Jenkins community, he had spent virtually all his life in Barry County and for 22 years owned and operated a general merchandise store at Golden. In 1957 he suffered the first in a series of heart attacks and sold the Golden business, moving to Springfield and entering the apartment house business. He had entered St. John's Hospital Monday and suffered a fatal attack at 5:30 Tuesday. Surviving are his wife, the former Miss Mabel Sanders of Shell Knob, to whom he was married November 19, 1935; two sons, four brothers, three sisters. The services will be conducted at the Scholten Church of Christ Friday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock, with burial in the Mars Hill Cemetery under the direction of the Manlove Funeral Home of Crane. |
