Raymond W. Cooper, 78, of Monett, died at 2:30 p.m. yesterday, December 9, at Veterans Administration hospital in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
Mr. Cooper was born July 6, 1921, in Siloam Springs, Arkansas, the son of John Wesley and Mary Julia (Broughton) Cooper. He retired from the U. S. Air Force in 1967 after 23 years of service. He moved to Monett in 1969 and taught auto mechanics at Monett High School, retiring in 1985. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Monett, Blue Mountain Masonic Lodge in Mountain View, Arkansas, Monett Disabled American Veterans, Hobbs-Anderson Post 91 Monett American Legion, Monett Tom Wolfe Memorial Post 4207 Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Air Force Sergeant Association. He married Houstine Bean on February 21, 1946, in Springdale, Arkansas. Additional survivors include two sons, one daughter, one brother, three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Services will be 10 a.m. Monday, December 13, at Buchanan Chapel in Monett with Rev. Mark Mildren officiating. Burial will 2:30 p.m. Monday in National Cemetery in Fayetteville, Arkansas, under the direction of Buchanan Funeral Home of Monett. Masonic services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, December 12, at the funeral home with R. W. B. William "Bill" Moore, chaplain, officiating, with visitation to follow. Memorials may be made to Monett Disabled American Veterans or Hospice. |
