Text | On Thursday, Nov. 11, 2004, at 3:15 a.m., Lena Emma Coones, of Monett, departed this life to be reunited with her Lord and Savior and a host of family and friends after 99 years on this earth. She was born July 22, 1905, to Ira and Sarah Jane (Roller) Marbut in Barry County where she lived most of her life. She married Buell Coones December 1925. She was a member of Arnhart Baptist Church. Both she and her husband were very committed to serving the churches through music and teaching. Lena was an inspiration to all she came in contact with. She taught us about love, caring, patience and laughter. She was a retired cook for Purdy School and was also a dairy farmer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Buell, on March 29, 1965; one infant daughter, Katherine Louise; one son, Rayburn; four sisters, Anna Mackey, Eula Hemphill, Mable Blankenship and Myrtle Coffee; and one brother, Brit Marbut. She is survived by two sons; a daughter. She also leaves behind several grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren who will all greatly miss her. Her life will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Arnhart Baptist Church, Purdy, followed by burial in the Arnhart Cemetery with her husband. She will always be in our hearts. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in Buchanan Funeral Home, Monett. A memorial has been established to Arnhart Baptist Church. |
