Text | Mary Lillian Conyers, 86, of Monett, died at 1:40 p.m. April 9 at Cox Monett Hospital. Mrs. Conyers was born October 12, 1912, in Pawnee, Oklahoma, the daughter of James A. and Lillan McCann McCollum. She was a graduate of Stephens College and Oklahoma State University, taught school at the high school in Cushing, Oklahoma, was a counselor at Stephens College, and was employed by Texas Rockwool Company in Belton, Texas, until 1968 when she moved to Monett from Temple, Texas. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Monett, was active in Collective Arts and the Hawthorne Literary Club in Monett, and was a member of the Pi Beta Phi, Psi Chi, Phi Theta Kappa, and Sigma Xi. She married Clarence E. Top in 1939, and he preceded her in death in 1964. She married Jennings H. Conyers in April of 1968, and he survives. Additional survivors include one son, John Top of La Jolla, California; one daughter, Nancy Kimbrell of Albuquerque, New Mexico; one step-son, Tom Conyers of Springfield; one step-daughter, Chris Tornquist of Edmond, Oklahoma; two sisters, Mildred Sander of Kerrville, Texas, and Maxine Farmilo of Vancouver, British Columbia; three grandchildren, two step- grandchildren, two step-great grandchildren, and five nieces and nephews. The body has been cremated. Memorial services will be 10 a.m. tomorrow, April 13, at the First United Methodist Church in Monett with Rev. Mark Mildren officiating. Ash internment will be held at a later date at Highland Cemetery in Pawnee, Oklahoma, under the direction of Buchanan Funeral Home of Monett. |
