Text | Died of consumption, near Culbertson, Neb., March 18, Caroline, wife of Combs Smith and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Marbut. The deceased was born near McDowell, on little Flat Creek, Nov, 04, 1863, where they lived until she was married. Early in life she embraced religion and became a member of the M. P. Church of which she was a constant and faithful member until death released her from her sufferings and she was wafted home by angels in heaven. February 23, 1895, she was married to James Smith of Culbertson, Neb., immediately after their marriage they returned to their western home where they lived happily together until separated by that inevitable monster, death. About one year ago she was taken of consumption and gradually grew worse. Feb. 1st her parents were called to her bedside, where they remained until the end came. She bore her sufferings patiently. Realizing that death was near, she sent an affectionate farewell to her brothers and sisters, saying "Tell them goodbye for I am going to heaven." The remains were brought back to the church near her old home where funeral services were conducted by Rev. Felix Horner. After which the remains were interred in the Calton Cemetery amid a throng of mourning relatives and friends. A cousin, Tursie Marbut. |
