A funeral service for Hazel Roller Clemons, a former teacher in Hazelwood, will be at 10:30 a.m. today at the First Baptist Church in Wheaton, Mo. Burial will be in the Muncie Chapel Cemetery, near Wheaton. Mrs. Clemons, 63, of Purdy, Mo., died Monday after a lengthy illness at the Missouri Rehabilitation Center in Mount Vernon, Mo. Mrs. Clemons grew up in southwestern Missouri. She moved to the St. Louis area in 1955, when she became director of a special reading program in the Hazelwood School District. She earned a master's degree in education in 1965 from the University of Missouri at Columbia. She taught at a number of Hazelwood schools until 1969, when she returned to Purdy. She taught at schools in Purdy and Cassville, Mo., before retiring from the Wheaton School District in 1986. Mrs. Clemons taught Sunday School classes at the Florissant Baptist Church and was active in teachers' groups. Surviving are her husband of Purdy; two sons of Nixa, Mo. and Goodman, Mo.; a daughter of Cassville; two brothers of Monett, Mo. and San Luis Obispo, Calif.; two sisters of Neosho, Mo. and Springdale, Ark.; and six grandchildren. |
