Nancy Jane Chitwood, daughter of Van Y. and Susanah Chitwood, was born Aug. 30, 1869 in Barry County, Missouri and passed away Mar. 28, 1959 at the hospital in Cassville, Mo., at the age of 89 years, 6 months and 29 days. She lived most of her girlhood days near Patterson Creek in McDonald County, Missouri. In 1909 she moved back to Barry County with her parents and in 1918 they moved to Wheaton, where she lived the remainder of her life. She was converted in 1891 and lived a faithful Christian life but did not join a church until 1941 when she joined the First Baptist Church of Wheaton, Missouri. For many years she lovingly cared for her parents until their passing away and since then has lived alone in her little home in Wheaton. Her relatives and friends affectionately spoke of her as "Aunt Jane Chitwood" because of their high esteem of her Christian character and her sweet personality. She is survived by two brothers Thomas Chitwood of Neosho, Mo., and George W. Chitwood of Pueblo, Colorado, a host of nephews and nieces and friends. One brother, Richard Chitwood preceded her in death. Funeral services were conducted at the Wheaton Baptist Church at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon. Rev. W. P. Bryan of Humansville, a former pastor, and Rev. W. E. Cowan, pastor, officiated. Burial was in the Chitwood cemetery under direction of the Pogue Funeral Home. Card of Thanks: Words are inadequate to express our gratitude to the citizens of Wheaton for their kindness and the hospitality extended to us during the time of our recent bereavement. We wish, also to sincerely thank the friends of our dear Aunt Jane Chitwood for their loving concern for her during her lifetime here as well as at the time of her illness and passing. Dolly M. Chitwood and Mrs. Ruth M. McClure |
