Mrs. Laura May Chesem departed this life, after a few days illness with paralysis at her home in Purdy on April 16, 1915, age 68 years, 1 month and 25 days. She was born in Clark County, Indiana, February 22, 1847. She professed faith in Christ and united with the Missionary Baptist Church more than 39 years ago and had lived a consistent Christian life until death. She leaves a husband, three sons and three daughters. They are Harrison and James Harvey of Western Kansas, William of Colorado, Mrs. Dora Moses and Mrs. Rosa Ayers of Washington, and Mrs. Nellie Widders of Butterfield, the only child present when death came. A good wife and mother has gone to rest and a happy home is broken up. Funeral services were conducted at the New Church northwest of Butterfield, April 17, at 2 p. m. by the writer in the presence of a large audience. The remains were laid to rest in the Mt. Pleasant cemetery. May Heaven's richest blessings attend the bereaved. J. T. Brattin. Research Notes: The correct surname is spelled Chezem and the correct given name is spelled Lura. |
