Obit For Nellie Mae (Riley) Carter
Headline PROMINENT STELLA WOMAN PASSES AWAY THURSDAY
Text Nellie Mae Carter was born January 20, 1889 at Crane, Mo., and passed away September 12, 1928 at Rochester, Minn. She was married to O. E. Carter November 19, 1910. To this union one daughter was born, Mae Ylene, who survives her mother. Surviving besides her husband and daughter are: her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Riley of Clayton, N. M., seven sisters, Mrs. Suva Howard, Sacramento, Cal., Mrs. Emma Jeans, Diamond, Mo., Mrs. Bernice Fones, Dalhart, Tex., Mrs. Dora Wolfenbarger, Sedan, N. M., Mrs. Lola Woods, Clayton, N. M., Miss Cleo Wiley Clayton, N. M. and one brother, Charles Wiley of Sedan, N. M. Three sisters preceded her in death, Mrs. Bertha Davis, Cora Wiley and Gladys Wiley.

The deceased was a woman of rare educational attainment and had much to do with the educational training of the youth of the community in which she lived. Early in life, she consecrated herself to her Savior and lived a devoted Christian all her days, and when the Messenger came for her, she was ready. During her illness her communion and fellowship with her Savior was a benediction to all who were privileged to witness it.

She has left to her own loved ones, and to a host of friends, who loved her, a heritage more precious than gold or rubies. Her unseen presence will long be felt in the community in which she lived, and many will raise up and call her blessed. The body was sent to Neosho, arrived there Saturday and lying in state at the Neosho Funeral Home on E. Main Street until Tuesday at one o’clock, when it was taken to the family home in Stella.

Funeral services were held that afternoon at the Methodist Episcopal church, by the Rev. Welsh, pastor of that church. Burial was made in the Macedonia cemetery.
