| Text | John Calton of the Verona community died Saturday morning, July 21, at the Ozark Osteopathic Hospital in Springfield. Mr. Calton had been ill for a long time. The body was brought to Monett where funeral services were held Monday afternoon, July 23 at the Callaway Funeral home, Interment was in the Calton cemetery. He is survived by two brothers, Porter and Oliver Calton, and two sisters, Mrs. Rena Pennell of Verona, and Mrs. Lucy Haynes who lives in California. Mr. Calton was 77 years old. He was a son of the late David and Lona Calton. He was married to Samantha Black in 1890. They were the parents of three children, all of whom survive. They are Floyd of Sprinfield; Oma of tulsa, Okla.; and Mrs. Ada Arnhart of Valley Center, Kan. Mrs. Calton died about the year 1900. He was later married to Mattie Duffy of McDowell and to them one daughter was born, Stella who lives in Fresno, Calif. For many years he had been a member of the Pleasant Ridge Baptist church. |
