Text | Mary A. King, wife of W. N. Calhoun, was born January 26, 1861 and died August 17, 1937, age 76 years, 6 months and 22 days. Eight children was born to this union, who are A. C. Calhoun, Aurora; W. E. Calhoun, Cape Fair; B. C. Calhoun, Aurora; V. C. Calhoun, Cape Fair; Mrs. Cora Wilson, Albquerque, NM; J. H. Calhoun, Boise Idaho; W. N. Calhoun, preceded her in death June 12, 1925; also 2 children, Finis and Opal, died at an early age. Mamie as her husband liked to call her, was a calm and gracious lady about the home. Friends and neighbors were always entertained with kindness. Her frugality and pioneering spirit have been handed down to the children whose five living sons are far seeing doing things out of the ordinary and renoted for their honesty. She was converted and united with he Missionary Baptist church about 40 years ago, and was a member of the old Bethany church of Flat Creek. She will be missed by her children, grandchildren and a host of friends. Funeral services were held at the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, on Thursday afternoon, Aug. 19, 1937, by Chas. Vanzandt, Mrs. Carrie Williams, and Mrs. Lula Edmondson, Clinton Blythe, and Truman Thompson rendered vocal selections, with Miss Lavonna Hill at the organ.
