| Text | Bessie Evelyn Byrd, 82, of Purdy, died December 12 at Monett Health Care Center. Mrs. Byrd was born February 17, 1918, in Avoca, Arkansas, the daughter of Jake and Lydia Boley Lemmons. She had lived in Oklahoma and Arkansas before moving to the Purdy area in 1969. She was a member of Mill Street Church of Christ. She married Alcie Dupree Byrd on December 20, 1934, in Washburn. Survivors include four sons, one daughter, one brother, one sister, 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Richard and Clarence Byrd; two daughters, Elsie Byrd and Yvonne Varner; three brothers, Clarence, Jessie, and James Lemmons; two sisters, Ethel Cochran and Anna Lemmons; one grandchild and one great grandchild. Services were 1 p.m. today, December 14, at Fohn Chapel in Cassville with Wayne Deffenbaugh officiating. Burial was in Maplewood Cemetery in Exeter under the direction of Fohn Funeral Home of Cassville. |
