Text | John W. Bryant, a well known citizen of Cassville and surrounding communities, passed away at his come Friday morning at the age of 76 years, after an illness of a few weeks. He was born in Illinois in 1854, and moved to Richland, Mo., with his parents when a boy. Remaining there for some time he came to Barry county and in 1873 he and Miss Elizabeth Hadley were united in marriage and to this union seven children were born, all living. They are; Mrs. Bert McFarlin who resides in Kansas, Mrs. Doyle Simmons of Idaho, Mrs. Ora Chaney of Kansas, Mrs. Stella Black, Chas G. Bryant, Ray Bryant of Cassville and Wm. R. Bryant of Purdy.
Mrs. Bryant passed away about 16 months ago. After his marriage he farmed a few years northwest of Cassville, moving to town in about 1889 and for years was in the drying business. He was a man of jovial disposition, and the gift of imitation which he used in his younger days much to the amusement of his friends and sometimes to their embarrassment. Although in his youth he did not have the advantages of school, he was a keen observer and a sound reasoner, was witty and made friends easily. Funeral services were held at the residence Saturday afternoon, Sept. 6, conducted by Rev. C. E. Henderson and interment was made in Oak Hill cemetery under the direction of W.D. Koon. Soon after the death of his wife he began falling and gradually declined in health, being forced to take his bed a few weeks ago. |
