Text | Mayme Gertrude, daughter of Eld. and Mrs. J. T. Brattin, was born March 12, 1890, in Cassville, MO. Departed this life at the home of her parents in Cassville, after a lingering illness of 18 months, on May 6, 1933. Age 43 years, one month and 24 days. She professed faith in Christ at home in 1911 and united with the First Baptist Church at Cassville during a meeting conducted by Eld. J. F. Williams and Eld. C. F. Siler, and was baptized by Eld. J. C. Sills, and continued in the faith to the end. She bore her afflictions with patience and was always cheerful and hopeful and her going was peaceful. She was united in marriage to Charles M. Brown in Kansas City, MO, April 25, 1924. She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband, Charles M. Brown, of Enid, Okla., one daughter by a former marriage, Mrs. Geneva Marbut Choate, her parents, one sister, Mrs. Clara Henderson of Cassville, one brother, Maurice W. Brattin of Oklahoma, and a host of relatives and friends. Her husband, daughter, son-in-law, parents and sister, were with her during her last illness and did all that loving hands could do for her. Everything that a skilled physician could do was done. [indent] We cannot say and will not say, That she is dead; she is just away. With a cheery smile and a wave of the hand, She wandered on to a better land. Leaving us thinking how very fair, It needs must be since she tarries there. [un-indent] Funeral services were held at the Baptist church, here, Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. C. F. Siler of Tulsa, Okla., Rev. C. M. Smith of Exeter, and Rev. D. H. Truhitte of Cassville. A quartette composed of Mrs. John Ray, Mrs. Glen Pearl, Clinton Blythe and Chas. Willis furnished music at the services. By request of the family, Mrs. Ray sang a solo. Many beautiful floral emblems were received by the family. Interment was made in the Oak Hill cemetery here, under the direction of the Koon Funeral Service. RESEARCH NOTE: Mayme was baptized by Eld. James Cummins Sills, who was her maternal grandfather. Daughter of James Tilman and Minnie Laura (Sills) Brattin. |
