| Text | Sherman Brattin, 84, of Springfield, died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2007. Mr. Brattin was born Sept. 7, 1922, near Wheaton. On June 6, 1941, he was united in marriage to Ethel Charlene Smallwood. She preceded him in death. Sherman was a United States Navy veteran. He worked as a Springfield City firefighter for 25 years before retirement. He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene. Survivors include: two children; one brother; two sisters; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents: six brothers, Lillard, Leo, Crawford, Pete, Minor and Levi; and one sister Helen Crossland. Services were held Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2007, in Greenlawn Funeral Home North, Springfield. Burial was in Greenlawn Cemetery. |
