Text | Larry Hudson Blythe passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2011, at the Mt. Vernon Veterans Home in Mt. Vernon, Mo., at the age of 79 years. Mr. Blythe, son of William Clinton and Amy Jewell (Hudson) Blythe, was born on March 29, 1931, in Cassville, Mo. He was a lifelong Cassville resident and was a 1949 graduate of Cassville High School. He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army Dental Corps from 1952 to 1954. Upon his discharge from the military service, he began his ownership and operation of Blythe Grocery in Cassville for seven years. In 1961, he built Cassville Bowl, of which he was owner and proprietor for 25 years before he retired in 1986. He was a longtime member of the Cassville Chamber of Commerce and the Cassville Rotary Club. Larry was a member of the First Christian Church in Cassville for 64 years where he served as a deacon and was a member of the church choir. He was baptized in 1943 at the age of 12 years old. In 2007, he became a member of the First Baptist Church in Cassville. He was married to Sue Hawk on Oct. 20, 1949, in Cassville by Reverend Calvin E. Henderson, the bride's grandfather. She survives. Additional survivors include: one son Jacob William Blythe and his wife, Terri, of Kansas City, Missouri; two granddaughters, Stefanie Lynne Stewart and her husband, Joe, and Whitney Anne Blythe, all of Kansas City, Mo.; one great-grandson, Joseph Carter Stewart; and a host of friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his daughter, Sally Smith. Memorial services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 12 at the First Baptist Church in Cassville with Reverend James Weaver officiating. Military Funeral Honors were conducted by the U.S. Army, Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. Private committal services will be at a later date. Honorary pallbearers were be Floyd Allison, Rusty Arnold, Ken Cieslinski, Kenny Lingle, Senator Emory Melton, and Gary Norris. Memorial contributions may be made to the Barry County Museum and entrusted to the White Funeral Home. |
