Text | Following a brief serious illness, B. J. Black, generally known in this community as “Babe” Black, passed away Saturday afternoon, May 5, at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Harper, age 69 years. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. R. M. Patrick and Rev. Erickson. Burial was made in the Pilant Cemetery northeast of Cassville one mile in the community in which Mr. Black had spent most all his life. The Horine-Culver Funeral Service had charge. Mr. Black was born at Rolla, Feb. 8, 1865. He was a son of the late Jake Black. Soon after his birth the family moved from Rolla to what is now know as the Black community northeast of Cassville on Flat Creek. B. J. continued to live there all his life. He was a very quite, unassuming man and a good citizen. He is survived by one son, Herbert and three daughters; Mrs. Dora Sturgil of Cato, Mrs. Gertrude Harper of Cassville, and Mrs. Flora Combs of near Butterfield.
