Text | Marion Birkes was born near Berryville, Ark., Dec. 30, 1848. Died at his home Exeter, Mo., Jan. 3, 1930 age 81 years, and four days. Death was due to complications of diseases due to old age.
He came to Missouri with his parents when a small boy. They settled near Capps Creek. Mr. Birkes was married to Sarah Elizabeth James, in 1870. She preceded him in death in September 1891, to this union six children were born, five of whom are now living. They are: Saphrona Patton, Wheaton, Mo., C. O. Birkes, Stark City, Mo., Eva M. Harrell, Della P. Dotson, Long Beach, Cal. And R. C. Birkes, who died Oct. 11, 1911. In 1897 he was married to Amelia C. Warren, who still survives him. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Mrs. Amelia C. Birkes, one sister, Mrs. Melvian Ray, of Fairview, Mo., two sons, three daughters, fifteen grandchildren, twenty-one grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at the Concord church on Saturday afternoon. Jan. 4, 1930 by Chas Vanzandt. Burial in the Concord cemetery under the direction of the Barr and Blankenship Funeral Service.
